Daytrippers was founded in 2003 to ensure children and young people living with disabilities have the opportunity to enjoy themselves, improve their confidence, and break boundaries through social, recreational, and educational activities.

In the years since we hosted 132 bespoke events and funded over 700 day trips through our grants programme. Over 50,000 children and young people have benefitted from our support.

In 2018, we relaunched as a grant-giving foundation to support others to host their own inclusive and creative events, workshops or legacy programmes. We permanently closed in 2021.

OUR EXPERIENCE

We hosted and developed large scale inclusive events, such as the UK’s largest indoor pan-disability football tournament. Having a flexible approach and ensuring our activities were accessible, safe and fun was vital. We have always championed inclusion and innovation.

We have established long-term relationships with the Zoological Society of London, Tate London, Eye Music Trust and more. We are working towards creating a legacy of inclusion and positive experiences for children and young people with disabilities and life-limiting conditions.

2003

Daytrippers was founded, the Day Trip Grants programme begins, going on to support over 13,500 CYP with disabilities to attend exciting day trips across the UK.

2005

We hosted our first event, a summer party at the Clapham Grand, and hosted another two the following year, attended by nearly 3000 people.

We hosted our first pan-disability football tournament, which was the first of nine tournaments, and the largest indoor event of its kind in Europe.

Christmas saw our first private pantomime event at The Lyric, Hammersmith. Due to popular demand this event occurred annually for nine years.

We established a partnership with Zoological Society of London on their Special Children’s Day resulting in us being an ongoing partner of this prestigious event helping to develop its inclusivity.

In September we hosted our first private SEND day at Colourscape in Clapham. Over the years we have partnered with Colourscape on inclusive, interactive events all over the UK.

A snowy December saw an exclusive collaboration with TourettesHero, enabling young people to celebrate the creativity that Tourettes brought into their lives.

Our 50th event, a pan-disability football tournament, was hosted in October of this year.

We hosted our first event in Manchester, by asking young people to take on Challenge 4 Change.

We celebrated our 10th birthday in April, by hosting a joint birthday party with our colleagues at Create Charity.

Our 500th Day Trip went ahead this July.

We were awarded a grant of £21,500 from Globals Make Some Noise, supporting our events and day trip grants over two years.

November saw the first of three inclusive events with our partners the Tate Gallery, and artist Ben Connors, where young people could explore the art gallery in a fully inclusive environment.

We reached a landmark of supporting 35,000 individual experiences.

In October 2018, we relaunched as Daytrippers Foundation and expanded our grant programmes.

Three annual inclusive events at Tate Britain, London supporting children & young people with disabilities to explore, access art and challenge sensory obstacles with gallery spaces.

Partnering with Zoological Society of London on their annual Special Children’s Day. Over eleven years over 11,000 young people with disabilities have accessed this unique event through Daytrippers support.

colourscape

Immersive colour and music workshops with Colourscape in Clapham, London and numerous locations throughout the UK. Over eight years 3400 people have benefitted from our partnership.

theatre

Safe, accessible and inclusive theatre performances suitable for young people with disabilities. These environments are flexible to cater for varying needs, allowing almost 5000 young people with disabilities to experience performing arts.

Three unique and bespoke events with TourettesHero celebrating the positivity and creativity of young people with Tourettes.

bowling

Over seven private events almost 1000 young people with disabilities were able to enjoy our safe, accessible and inclusive bowling parties. Creating vital opportunities to make friends, have fun and try something new.

adventure

Creating opportunities for adventure and fun offering various activities for young people with disabilities to try for the first time. Climbing, skiing, Skateboarding, Dance and Circus skills to name but a few.

art & music

Fully inclusive and interactive art and music workshops supporting young people with disabilities to be creative and learn through craft activities.

parties

Summer & Halloween Parties at The Clapham Grand, London attended by almost 3000 people.

Almost 1000 young Londoners with disabilities took part in one of our seven film premieres. Making, editing, starring in their own films and animations then attending our bespoke Oscars ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
